授業の目的?内容 ／Course Objectives	研究テーマ：Early Modern Globalization and Shakespeare 世界の交易ネットワークの中心が、地中海から大西洋へと移行しつつある時代、イングランドはポルトガル、スペインに遅れて、その権益獲得に乗り出した。近代的なメトロポリスへと変貌するロンドンで、大衆のための芝居を書いていたShakespeareにとって、世界経済システムの変化はどのような意味を持ち得たのか。正確な地理上の知識に無頓着な面があった分だけ、初期近代の詩人の想像力は同時代の大衆的な世界理解の指標となりうる。 この授業ではThe Merchant of VeniceとThe Tempestを取り上げながら、「地中海」と「新世界」がShakespeareと彼の同時代のロンドンの大衆にとってどのような意味を持ったのかを考える。参考文献は下記の通り。
授業の形式?方法と履修上の注意 ／Teaching method and Attention the course	テクストの精読は１幕を1回のペースで進めていく。 議論では参考文献の指定された個所を読み、そこで取り上げられている問題について議論をする。 学期末レポートについては合評会を開き、その際に担当教員からの講評もあわせて伝える。
事前?事後学修の内容 ／Before After Study	事前にShakespeareの戯曲の指定された箇所を精読しておく。3時間程度を要する。参考文献については指定された章の要約とそれについての意見を文書にまとめる。事後には参考文献の議論とShakespeareの戯曲を具体的に関連させたレポートを執筆する。事後学習にかかる時間は学期を通して30時間程度を見込んでいる。
